FOOD

Throughout the day a think about a lot of things... what I'm gonna do after work, what I'm gonna do during work, how I should get out of exercising that day, why I need to exercise, how much I love puppies, my weekend plans... but mainly I just think about what I'm going to eat next. Really, I would say thoughts of my next meal consume about 60 to 70 percent of my time. And somehow I don't think that is abnormal. Come on, admit it to yourself, you think about food just as much as I do. But have you ever stopped to think about exactly where - yes where - that item you are putting in your mouth came from? I know, its a daunting thought. And yes, I know sometimes you really just don't want to know the answer. But honestly, food being my favorite of the things I need to live (the others being: water, sleep, air, cute clothes) I figured I owed to myself to research a little bit of my favorite thing. I'm already a moderate health nut... (who happens to fall off the bandwagon at the sight of anything fried and salty) so I figured there couldn't be much I didn't know already about healthy food. But during a particularly disappointed vacation, culinary speaking, I picked up the book "Ominvore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan.

Although at times the reading was a bit too academic for my pleasure reading taste, the book was intriguing and eye opening. So, to follow in my pursuit of knowing all things food related, I went to see the movie "Food Inc." this weekend.

I really think everyone should see this film. It's not a radical don't-eat-meat kinda film. It's just a cold hard look at the way the food industry works. - from beef to soybeans. I think Americans need to be more educated on where our food is coming from. Food is a life source! And what you eat can drastically affect your health. But, I digress from becoming too preachy. But I did want to share with you my newest adventure - Vegetarianism. Some of the images and information in that film were too much for me to handle. I've been toying with the idea of becoming a Vegetarian for some time now. I think this is the best time to give it a go! So, good luck to me. I know it's gonna be hard, I do love a good steak. But I'm still gonna eat fish, and eggs, and when a special occasion comes along that involves a good grass-fed organic steak you betcha I'm not passing that by. But in every day life I'm gonna do my best to be a veg-head!

But even if you have no interest in becoming a vegetarian - I still think "Food Inc." is worth your time!

peace, love, health, and happiness!
