I heart Valentine's Day

I HATE it when people trash talk Valentine's Day.  It's such a lovely holiday.  I know what you are thinking, what if you are single and just don't want to be reminded of everyone's everlasting love?  Well, I've been in that boat (in fact, I currently am) but I still find joy in Valentine's Day.  I just love the idea of it.  Love that there is a day to take time out of our busy lives and focus on someone special or maybe even everyone that is special in our lives (like our friends, my single companions).  I just don't believe Valentine's Day is some so-called "Hallmark Holiday."  There are plenty of creative ways to celebrate that don't involve buying fancy jewelry (although I LOVE jewelry) or going to over-priced dinners.  Such as, a hike and a pic-nic (perferably with wine), taking a tour of your town's sweet shops (did this last year and it was fabulous), candle lit dinner at home (note to men: candles make a difference, it doesn't take much effort to light them so just do it), or surprise your lover with something thoughtful (not expensive, just thoughtful).  I just think it's nice to stop and appreciate love and the people you love in your life.

If you don't have a special someone, do something with the other single special someones in you life (you know, your friends - the people that are always there to pick you up when you are down).  I've had a few (well, one) lovely Valentine's Day with my friends (Jaclyn - remember our candle lit carne asada dinner, flowers, and matching sorority sweatshirt presents!) and this year I'm gearing up for another.  Saturday night my roomie and I are throwing a Cheesy Valentine's Day party!  Complete with candy hearts, streamers, and heart shaped brownies.  I'm very excited to spend time with my best girlies (both single and taken, since the party isn't actually on V-day) and enjoy a homecooked (by me and the roomie) pasta dinner and have a few drinks (maybe more than a few...).  So in conclusion (of what seems like a sales pitch for this holiday), try to enjoy Valentine's Day!  It really is a beautiful holiday.  And if all else fails just look at is a day to have a party and get drunk!

Also, I am simply in love with hot pink roses!  And bouquets of colorful gerbera daisies!  Anyone want to send me some? ;)
